Can I Use My Own Router?

Yes! We're happy for you to use your own router, and if you wish to contact us at the point of order to confirm that you don't wish for our standard router to be sent out to you, please do let us know, if we don't need to send you a router we can save on packaging to help the environment, and hopefully prevent any e-waste from ending up in landfill.

If you wish to use your own router, you need to make sure that it has a a Gigabit Ethernet WAN port. This means that you can plug straight into the ONT and get the maximum possible speed from your package. If your router has an Ethernet WAN port that is not gigabit capable, your router may act as a bottleneck limiting you to 100mbps. Additionally, if your router only has an ADSL/VDSL WAN connection, or a Coax input, you will not be able to use this. Some routers have both, so it's worth checking.

Our packages are designed to be simple to setup and manage by you, so all you need to do to get setup is set the Internet/WAN settings to 'dynamic' or 'DHCP'. You may see options such as 'PPPoE', 'PPPoA', and 'Static', and once you change to Dynamic some fields may disappear. This is how it should display, and once you've saved this change, you should be good to go.

If you encounter any issues, please contact our service desk, and we'll get you setup as soon as we can.

Please note, if you do opt to use your own router and experience any network issues, we may need you to switch to our router temporarily so that we can rule out any issues with your hardware.
